OREGON RECYCLING NEWS:

1 | Recycling money backs Burkholder in Metro race

Metro likely has more impact on waste management and recycling than any other governmental agency in Oregon. The regional government will have a new council leader starting in January, with three candidates — Bob Stacey, Rex Burkholder and Tom Hughes — vying for the position.

An analysis of campaign contributions shows that the waste management and recycling industries favor Burkholder. Stacey has raised no funds from these sectors, while Hughes has garnered support from just two parties, these being Hillsboro Garbage ($750) and Waste Connections ($2,000).

Burkholder, on the other hand, has raised $8,750 from haulers and recycling industry members, these being waste hauler John Walker ($250); Calbag's Warren Rosenfeld ($3,000), Environmentally Conscious Recycling ($3,000); Far West Fiber's Jeff Murray ($250); Waste Management ($2,000) and Schnitzer Steel $1,250).
